New Masses!
Posted by Andrew on Jul 14th, 2008
Salve!
Father Rommel Tolentino, the new pastor of Saint Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Hackberry, Louisiana, has graciously decided to offer Holy Mass in the extraordinary form every Monday at St. Peter’s at 6:15 PM, unless he is unable to do so. It will be a Low Mass. All are welcome to attend. I will post on the blog when he is unable to celebrate Mass.
Also, he will celebrate a Low Mass every First Saturday of the month at St. Peter’s in Hackberry at 8:30 AM. The next First Saturday will be August 2nd.
I have updated the page “Latin Masses in the Diocese” accordingly.

Is this lawful to have a Traditional Latin Mass in the evening? My text “The Celebration of Mass” by Rev. J.B. O’Connell states that Mass may not be begun later than one hour past midday (pg. 35).

Hmm…well I think technically it’s a private Mass. Mondays are that particular priest’s days off.
But I honestly have no idea about the rubrics concerning the times for Masses. I could ask him and let him know that someone wants some clarification on this. If it’s not allowed, then I’ll try to let him know about that.

Now I love the Traditional Latin Mass, and I want to see as many be said as possible. However, I do also like to ensure that all of the rubrics of the Mass are properly followed.
If he does not already have a copy of the text from “The Celebration of Mass” by Rev. J.B. O’Connell I can photocopy the pages in question and fax them to him. I would be happy to help in any way, to help the proper celebration of the Tridentine Mass to continue.
God’s blessings upon you for all of your efforts. Pax tecum.

Certainly you may do that! I will give you the contact information:
http://www.lcdiocese.org/diocese/parishinfo.asp?ParishID=37
You can call him up at that parish as well if you think that would help. I haven’t spoken to him about this yet however.
(And if you ever need a new diocese, I bet Bishop Provost would welcome you here; he’s quite orthodox and supportive of tradition, unlike the majority of the priests here).
(But, personally, I’d recommend one of the traditional religious orders…)
