Latin Mass times
Starting October 7th, the Traditional Latin Mass will be at 2:00 every Sunday at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception using the High Altar. Any Catholic may attend and fulfill his Sunday obligation. For Holy Days of Obligation, the Tridentine Mass will be offered at 6:00 in the evening, and I think it will have to take place at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Hackberry because of scheduling conflicts with the cathedral. I’m sure all of the details will be made known soon. Father Roland Vaughn was appointed chaplain of the traditional Latin Mass in the diocese. He, Father Joseph McGrath, and Father Rommel Tolentino will be the celebrants and will alternate every Sunday. At first there will be only Low Masses, but then later the High Mass will be added.

Andrew, that is wonderful news! Thank you for sharing it with us. I hope to be able to make it every other weekend, as I am required to work on alternate Sundays. Has the High Altar been used at all in the last thirty five or forty years?
I’m really sorry that all of Father Tolentino’s hard work on the Altar-ation at OLQH is no longer neeeded, but, really, could we have asked for anything better than this?

I’m not sure when the last time the High Altar was used. As far as the Altar-ations, we will still do them for Father Tolentino’s private TLM Masses. Those who want to attend those will have to ask him personally or can ask someone who might know as well when they will take place.

This is wonderful news. I recently moved back to the Lake Charles area and will definitely be present for the first mass at the cathedral and hopefully every Sunday. Could someone let me know if there is interest in starting a choir to do chant/sacred polyphony for high masses? I would definitely be interested in any such endeavor.
Deo Gratias!

There’s definitely interest, Ben. I sent you an email about that a few days ago, if you got it, let me know. I would love to learn how to sing Gregorian chant and such.

Ben,
Give me your contact information and I will forward them to Jerry Crews, the one in charge of the Schola Cantorum for the High Masses. He is in search of interested people to join the choir.
