Breaking news

Okay the bishop has agreed to allow the Latin Mass once again in Lake Charles!!!

It will start in October every Sunday at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Hackberry. Three priests - Fr. Tolentino, Fr. Vaughn, and Fr. McGrath will rotate saying the Tridentine Latin mass. The reason it will start in October is to give them time to practice and prepare, as well as time to train the Altar boys who are so necessary for the classical Roman rite. Hackberry is about 12 miles from Sulphur, which is closer than Sacred Heart in Creole. There may be priests later on who would like to rotate to say the Mass.

We can’t wait to start assisting at the new Mass!!!

On another note, I’ll be out of town this weekend from Thursday to Monday, so if there are any more updates, feel free to add them to the comment box and I’ll update the blog when I get back home in LC.

  1. Pater Romeo Says:

Andrew, you’re very quick getting the news. I checked the blog this morning and there it was already. We (the three priests) just talked about it a while ago, after the Convocation, before we dispersed to our respective parishes. I don’t know that it is official. We might call it semi-official. Everything has been verbal communication only. Fr. Vaughn has met with the bishop, I’ve met with the bishop, Fr. McGrath probably did as well. And from our communications with him, everything seems very positive. The bishop is probably waiting for the hard copies of requests - Fr. Vaughn is writing something up for the three priests, and, of course, he will receive the petition from the laity (I don’t know if he received it already).

Regarding the letter of petition, I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to contribute names of interested friends and parishioners. I was waiting for a draft to send to them, so they’ll know what they’re signing. But what’s done is done. Just know that I have my own base of very interested friends and parishioners.

I hope to see you, Andrew, at Our Lady of Gaudalupe Seminary in Nebraska. I will be arriving Sunday evening, the 10th. Maybe I’ll see you Sunday or Monday. I’ll pray for your safe trip and fruitful discernment. Please pray for me and Fr. McGrath too as we study and learn the rubrics of the TLM.

Thanks for the clarification, Pater. I hope that it will go from semi-official to officially official. =)

  3. Letter of Petition Says:

Andrew and Father, I have the letter of petition for the Bishop. We were going to hand deliver it to him at our meeting. I am still waiting to hear from the Bishop’s secretary about our appointment. She does know that it is about asking for the Latin Mass. If I do not hear from her by the end of next week, I will call again. Sorry, I have not checked the blog site sooner, we are in the middle of remodeling.
    Cheryl
